Baptism

 “Unless you are born of water and Spirit you cannot enter into the Kingdom of God” (John 3:5).
 
In Scripture, St. Paul would baptize whole families including children (Acts 16:33). It is a free unearned gift of God’s love. Jesus earned this gift for your child when he died on the cross. Through Baptism we are freed from original sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God. By being baptized, we become members of the Catholic Church and called to become saints. 
 
“Babies should baptized within a few months after birth. Baptisms are available by calling the parish office and filling out a form. Parents and godparents must take a class which is online at this time. The class does not have to be taken again if it has been less than three years since you took it for a previous child’s baptism. Since they are models and will be professing their faith in the rite of baptism on behalf of the child, godparents must be practicing Catholics who regularly receive the Sacraments. If they are married they must be married in the Catholic Church.

First Communion

The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and other ministries and works of Catholic people, are bound together and oriented toward the Holy Eucharist.

At Mass, the bread and wine is changed into the total Jesus Christ, body and blood, soul and divinity. Holy Communion unites us intimately with Jesus Christ, separates us from sin, and unites with other members of the Catholic Church. Catholics normally receive the Holy Eucharist at Mass unless they need to go to Reconciliation to seek forgiveness of their serious sins.

Confessions

The Sacrament of Reconciliation offers the opportunity for a Catholic person to receive forgiveness for sins they have committed Parish Reconciliation Service and are reconciled with the Catholic Church.

God's forgiveness has been offered thorough Jesus Christ and extended to His Church by priests asking the forgiveness of God upon a Catholic person. Jesus Christ began this Sacrament of Healing for all sinful members of his Church.

Confessions 

Mon - Fri: 20 minutes before each mass

Saturday: 4:15pm - 4:45pm

Sunday: 15 minutes before each mass

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation enables the baptized person to be enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit and unites them to the Catholic Church to become true witnesses of Jesus Christ.

The effects of Confirmation enables us to be more united to Jesus Christ, increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us, and deepens our involvement in the Catholic Church.

Normally children are confirmed in 10th Grade. Please visit the Religious Formation page for more information on confirmation.

Adults who have not been confirmed may inquire about the process to be received in the Catholic Church through RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

Weddings

Fr. Victor Perez and Staff thank you for your interest in having your marriage celebration at St. Joseph Catholic Church. We will do everything to ensure a blessed and successful day. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and the Church is there in a supportive role. We at St. Joseph want to make you feel welcome.

Wedding Requirements 

Wedding Coordinator 

 St Joseph has a parishioner who conducts the wedding rehearsal and will assist with the wedding ceremony preparations in the church. The wedding coordinator, Linda Camacho, will contact you a month before the wedding date. Wedding guidelines are available in the church office.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick extends the healing of Jesus Christ for those who are ill and are suffering.

This ministry of healing is extended to priests who share in the healing mission of Jesus Christ. This sacrament is given to those who are seriously ill, who may be undergoing serious surgery, or in great need of God's healing in their lives. If it is possible, the Sacrament of Reconciliation precedes this sacrament and is followed by the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Funeral Arrangements

First Step in planning a Funeral is to call a local Funeral Home.  If you decide to have a Mass of Christian Burial, the Funeral Home will contact the church to make the arrangements that are usually schedule during the weekdays at 10:00 a.m. in the parish. 

We will assist you in the planning of the Mass of Christian Burial, Music, and Scripture Readings appropriate for Catholic Funeral Rite will be suggested. 

Parts of Funeral Rite: 
  1. Vigil and/or Rosary at the funeral home in the afternoon or evening.
  2. Mass of Christian Burial in the Church.
  3. Burial Rite at the cemetery. 
Cremation

If possible the Mass should be done with the body present before cremation. Many funeral homes don’t make this an option but you can request it. If this is not possible a memorial Mass with the ashes present is encouraged. Church law requires the cremated remains be laid to rest in consecrated ground, either buried or kept in a mausoleum.

Quinceañera

XV Mass arrangements must be made with the parish office at least 6 months in advance of the celebration. 

Parents must be registered and be active members of the parish. 

The XV girl must be in  Faith Formation classes prior to the celebration Mass.
